Approximately 4.1 million shelter animals are adopted each year (2 million dogs and 2.1 million cats).
About 810,000 animals who enter shelters as strays are returned to their owners. Of those 710,000 are dogs and 100,000 are cats.It’s estimated that 78 million dogs and 85.8 million cats are owned in the United State Approximately 44% of all households in the United States have a dog, and 35% have a cat.
Approximately 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.1 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.
Last year, about 355,000 dogs and cats were killed in our nation’s shelters just because they didn’t have a safe place to call home.We want to end the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters. In addition to running lifesaving programs in partnership with animal welfare groups, we have regional centers in New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Salt Lake City, and operate in the nation’s largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals.
Experts estimate that from 48 percent to 71 percent of battered women have pets who also have been abused or killed.In facts, pet abuse is one of four significant factors associated with battering.
Combined, America has about 14,000 animal rescue organizations.

Our first non profit is Animal Humane. Animal Humane's mission is to "support & improve the lives of New Mexico’s cats & dogs through sheltering, adoptions, humane education & veterinary services."
Next up we have... ASPCA! They want," to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States."
Lastly we have Best Friends Animal Society! Their mission is "to bring about a time without any homeless pets."
