Why this matters to me

Although I am not adopted, I realize the importance of finding children loving and secure homes where they can thrive. Both of my parents are adopted and I realize that my life and my parents’ life would be very different if people didn’t step in to help them get adopted. My hope is to provide kids with the same opportunity.

Why this cause is important

In New Mexico over 2,000 kids are currently in foster care and around 750 are awaiting adoption to find a forever family. Many kids who remain in the adoption system for multiple years are heavily affected by the trauma of not having a place of their own. In New Mexico, many children never get adopted or fostered because there is a shortage of interest and appropriate placement options. If you really want to understand shortage of suitable homes, read the book, titled "Anna, Age Eight: The Data-driven Prevention of Childhood Trauma and Maltreatment by Dominic Cappello and Katherine Ortega Courtney."
