Breaking the Silence New Mexico is a nonprofit organization that promotes mental health
literacy, advocacy, and well-being for teens, youth, and adults through education and personal
stories. Our core programs share the goal of ending the stigma, shame, silence, and secrecy
surrounding mental illness and suicide.

james,a man who recovered because of nonprofit therapy.James' Story (Family Counseling Center):
After failing to find success elsewhere, James hit rock bottom, dealing with schizophrenia and
severe addiction that led to homelessness and danger to his family. Through a nonprofit mental
health facility, he engaged in inpatient treatment, participated in groups, and took medication,
eventually getting sober, regaining custody of his children, and becoming a mentor for others
struggling.
